Franklin’s Trees: FDR’s Lifelong Love of Nature | Episode 4
Ulster County-based author and educator AJ Schenkman’s newest book, Franklin’s Trees, is the story of how Franklin D. Roosevelt, despite all his accomplishments on the world stage, considered himself “a simple tree farmer.” The book, written for children and invitingly illustrated by flora & fauna watercolorist Lauren Reese, will have you longing to stroll the grounds of the FDR historic site in Hyde Park and look out over FDR’s beloved Hudson River. The book is geared toward grade levels 1-5, or ages 6-10, but appropriate for history buffs and tree huggers of all ages.
AJ chats with Literary Hudson Valley here about Franklin’s Trees, but will be back just in time for Halloween to talk about some of his other work, including Wicked Ulster County.
